Round Report D1NZ Hampton R4

Hampton Downs is the one track in New Zealand that I have mixed feelings about. I’m not entirely sure that I like it, nor do I hate it. The only way I can describe it is “frustrating”. For a drift section, it’s pretty basic: 4th gear handbrake entry down a straight, into an uphill right with a quick switch back left over the crest, section ends. The tricky thing is, that because of this simplistic section, and that everyone in D1NZ has driven this track numerous times, it puts us all on a very even playing field come battle time. Read below for my high’s and low’s of this event and track.

D1NZ Round1 Manfield, done & dusted!

Another season, another first round at Manfield! I always enjoy this track, and the little town that is Fielding, it’s just an awesome place to travel to with some really good restaurants and hospitality.
This year our team has been fortunate to have Achilles Radial come on board, sponsoring both my RX7 and Bruce Tannock’s S13 to form the Achilles Radial Drift Team. This has really helped us with running the best tyres in the field and also bringing a professional look to the events. This was the first time we had pitted together and it worked very well, with our pit crew all mates outside of drifting it gives these events an awesome relaxed feeling now, just hanging out with your buddies.

Flash result – D1NZ Round2 podium finish!

This weekend we wrapped up Round2 of the D1NZ National Drifting Championship at the Toll Whangarei custom circuit. After two intense days of driving by all, we came away with 3rd place in the Achilles Radial Mazda RX7. Thanks to my team and sponsors for the support, I will have a full event report up next week!
